Job summary

The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate in our multidisciplinary cardiovascular research laboratory. The successful candidate will conduct independent and collaborative experiments, publish results, and contribute to grant proposals under the direction of the principal investigator.

  • PhD or MD, PhD in cardiovascular biology, molecular biology, or related field.
  • Experience performing research in a laboratory setting and publishing peer-reviewed articles.
  • Ability to communicate clearly orally and in writing; able to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent multi-disciplinary research experiments under the PI.
  • Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects.
  • Collect, reduce, and analyze data with independent judgment; maintain records.
  • Foster collaborations within the department and across the university.
  • Perform in vitro functional analyses including patch-clamp and calcium measurements.
  • Perform small animal surgery and in vivo phenotyping analyses.
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and present results at meetings.
  • Participate in grant writing and preparing progress reports.
  • Develop and implement protocols as dictated by results.

The candidate should have experience performing research in a laboratory setting and should have authored peer-reviewed research publications. Applicants should be detail-oriented, conscientious, able to work independently as well as in a team under direction of the principal investigator, and have the ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing. This position is eligible for visa sponsorship.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform independent multi-disciplinary research experiments under the direction of the principal investigator, Dr. Chiamvimonvat.
  • Develop, design, and conduct complex research projects.
  • Perform scientific data collections, reductions, and analyses involving routine procedures characterized by use of independent judgment.
  • Foster collaborations within the Department and with other units across the University.
  • Utilize molecular biology, biochemical techniques and high resolution imaging, Perform in vitro functional analyses including patch-clamp and calcium measurements.
  • Perform small animal surgery and in vivo phenotyping analyses.
  • Develop and maintain detailed records of experiments, analyzing and writing findings.
  • Present results at laboratory meetings and conferences.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
  • Develop and implement protocols as dictated by experimental results.
  • May assist with supervision of laboratory staff.
  • Oversee maintenance of hazardous/chemical waste records and disposal as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of coordinating experiments, and completing analysis, statistics, and interpretation. A strong team player.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.
  • Ability to participate at scientific conferences and present findings.
  • Knowledge of grant writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop reports and manuscripts and present findings in tabular, oral, written, and/or graphic formats.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or MD, PhD degree in cardiovascular biology, molecular biology, or related field of study.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise with multicolor flow cytometry.
  • Experience with basic molecular biology and biochemical techniques, such as RNA isolation, electrophoresis, western blot analyses, and qRT-PCR.
  • Expertise with immunofluorescence high resolution imaging and live-cell imaging.
  • Experience with preclinical models of cardiovascular diseases.
  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and analyses.
