Postdoctoral Research Associate - Computational quantummaterials and devices
About the Opportunity
SUMMARY

Northeastern University invites applications from outstandingcandidates to fill one or more Postdoctoral Research Associate(PRA) positions in computational quantum materials and devices. Theinitial appointments will be for one year, with the possibility ofextension up to three years subject to satisfactory performance andavailability of funds. These positions will be in ProfessorHai-Ping Cheng research group as part of Northeastern's broadQuantum Materials and Sensing Institute (QMSI) that includes theExperiential Quantum Advancement Laboratories (EQUAL) located atNortheastern's Innovation Campus at Burlington, MA.

The PRAs will be closely involved in exciting research on varioustheoretical aspects of molecular magnets, oxide coating materialsfor the LIGO scientific collaboration, and other quantum materials,and their modeling and simulation. Projects will includecomputational discovery of new quantum materials and opticalmaterials and their heterogeneous structures, demonstration andinterpretation of their properties, and the development of relatedsensing devices and applications.

The PRAs will be expected to take full advantage of computationalresearch facilities to develop new methods and techniques. PRAswill be expected to publish in top journals and make presentationsat appropriate conferences, supervise research of undergraduate andgraduate students assigned to them, assist in laboratorymaintenance, assist with the preparation of grant proposals andreports, and take part in other day-to-day researchactivities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Initiating and executing independent experimental orcomputational/theoretical research projects under the broadguidance of the faculty supervisors.
  • Preparing research papers, making presentations, and assistingwith preparing grant proposals, reports, and otherdocuments.
  • Helping with laboratory maintenance.
  • Supervising or assisting with research of graduate andundergraduate students.
QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Physics or a closely related field required, with evidenceof high‑quality experimental or theoretical research demonstratedthrough publications and presentations, and strong oral and writtencommunications skills.
