Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics (MCFP) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) at the University of Maryland (UMD), College Park, seek applications for up to two postdoctoral research associates to work on applications of quantum simulation, sensing, and other technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, in fundamental physics and related disciplines. Priority will be given to candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: quantum information science, fundamental physics (e.g., nuclear physics, high-energy physics, and cosmology), and AI/ML in physics. Strong analytical and numerical skills are required.
The postdoc research associate(s) will join the group of Prof. Zohreh Davoudi (https://www.davoudi-academic.com/) and will work at the Physical Sciences Complex on the campus of UMD, in close proximity to a strong and diverse community of faculty, fellows, and researchers in fundamental physics (including nuclear, particle, and gravitational physics) and quantum information science (including quantum simulation, quantum sensing, quantum information, and quantum computation). In addition to Maryland Center for Fundamental Physics (https://mcfp.physics.umd.edu/) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (https://quics.umd.edu/), the post-doc researcher(s) will enjoy interacting with researchers at the NSF Institute for Robust Quantum Simulation (https://rqs.umd.edu/), the Joint Quantum Institute (https://jqi.umd.edu/), and the National Quantum Lab (Q-Lab) (https://qlab.umd.edu/) with priority access to world-class quantum-computing facilities, among others.
Applications submitted by Nov 15, 2026 will receive full consideration. The start date of the appointment can be between January 1, 2027 and October 1, 2027, with a preference for earlier dates. This is a two-year position with the possibility of renewal for an additional year. In addition to a competitive salary and standard benefits, the position includes modest funds to cover research-related expenses.
For questions regarding the position, you may contact Prof. Davoudi at davoudi@umd.edu.
