Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory seeks a Laser Physicist- Postdoctoral Researcher to join the LSSE Program within NIF&PS. You will design, model, and commission cutting-edge laser technology, validating concepts for high-energy laser drivers and laser-matter interactions.

You will work on kJ-class laser architectures, frequency conversion, and cooling concepts, collaborating with a broad community of researchers while publishing results in peer-reviewed venues.

Qualifications

• PhD in laser physics, applied physics, general physics, atomic physics, optics and optoelectronics, or related field.
• Experience designing, building, and/or operating mid-to-high-energy (mJ–kJ) solid-state lasers.
• Experience in experimental physics in areas such as polarization physics, laser cavities, frequency conversion, nonlinear optics, and thermo-mechanical analysis.
• Experience with MATLAB, Python and/or similar data analysis tools.
• Ability to perform as an innovative researcher or experimentalist with broad experience in experimental design and execution.
• Experience developing independent research projects and publishing peer-reviewed work.
• Proficient written and verbal communication to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct R&D in advanced kJ-class laser architectures and frequency conversion or cooling concepts.
• Analyze experimental and simulated data with statistical tools and present findings clearly.
• Pursue independent research and collaborate with researchers across LLNL.
• Work in a multidisciplinary team to achieve research goals.
• Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
