Job description

## Postdoctoral Hire - Redwing Group - Department of Materials Science and EngineeringApply: Penn State University Park: Full time: Posted Today: REQ\\_0000083293# **APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:*** ## CURRENT PENN STATE EMPLOYEE (faculty, staff, technical service, or student), please login to Workday to complete the internal application process. Please do not apply here, apply internally through Workday.* ## CURRENT PENN STATE STUDENT (not employed previously at the university) and seeking employment with Penn State, please login to Workday to complete the student application process. Please do not apply here, apply internally through Workday.* ## If you are NOT a current employee or student, please click “Apply” and complete the application process for external applicants. **Approval of remote and hybrid work is not guaranteed regardless of work location. For additional information on remote work at Penn State, see Notice to Out of State Applicants.**This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding. **POSITION SPECIFICS**The Department of Materials Science and Engineering in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State seeks postdoctoral scholar applicants at the University Park campus. Several positions are available that focus on metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) of two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) and related materials. Scholars will use synthesis and characterization capabilities in the 2D Crystal Consortium facility and engage with related activities focused on developing AI tools and workflows to accelerate thin-film materials research. Example research opportunities include developing MOCVD growth, characterization, and doping processes for TMDs in support of p-type device development; investigating new precursor chemistries for TMD growth employing in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry to monitor growth and accelerate process development and related topics. The specific research focus will be shaped by the scholar’s expertise and the needs of the program.Postdoctoral scholars will plan and conduct experiments, analyze relationships among growth conditions, material structure, and properties, and communicate results through publications, group meetings and conference presentations. Working with collaborators, they will help develop data-rich experimental workflows that connect MOCVD synthesis and in situ measurements with AI-assisted planning, analysis, and feedback. The work offers opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including researchers focused on materials characterization, computational modeling, device fabrication and machine learning and intelligent system design. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, or a related field.Preferred requirements: Hands-on experience in electronic materials synthesis, characterization and/or device fabrication. Strong experimental, analytical, and communication skills are required. Experience with MOCVD or related vapor-phase deposition, TMDs, materials characterization, or data-driven experimentation is desirable. Applicants need not have experience in every area described above. **BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES**Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. **BENEFITS**Penn State provides a competitive benefits package for full-time employees designed to support both personal and professional well-being.
