Job Overview
PREP Research Associate on a CHIPS funded project for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The role supports research in machine learning for predicting infrared and mass spectra of PFAS compounds.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop libraries of training data by mining existing databases and simulating infrared and mass spectra using quantum chemistry and related methods.
- Create AI/ML models for high‑fidelity prediction of infrared and mass spectra and validate predictions against experimentally measured spectra.
- Collaborate with chemists, physicists, mathematicians, data scientists and other machine learning experts to meet project goals.
- Disseminate results through publications, talks, poster presentations, and other scientific outlets.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting quantum scattering calculations.
- Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or C/C++, experience using modern software frameworks for AI/ML, and experience in data analysis.
- Motivated, independent researcher with strong organizational, communication, and leadership abilities.
- Solid track record of scientific publication.
Salary
$89,000.
