Job summary

Indiana University’s Zaleski Lab in the Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow/Synthetic Chemist. The position focuses on designing and synthesizing hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts, with a start date around February 1, 2027.

Experience in solution-phase synthesis and characterization is highly valued, including NMR, EPR, IR, MS, XRD, TEM, and DFT. The role involves leading independent research, mentoring students, and collaborating on publications,

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Chemistry required or equivalent.
• Experience with inorganic and organic ligand synthesis with relevant analytical techniques.
• Deep understanding of organic and/or inorganic synthesis preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage own academic research and administrative activities with project coordination.
• Train graduate and undergraduate students in research methods.
• Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques to achieve objectives.
• Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory setting.
• Assist in maintaining a research laboratory and ordering equipment.
• Contribute ideas for new research projects.
• Undertake literature reviews and publish results in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Prepare scientific reports and journal articles and present papers.
• Provide guidance on protocols and experimental techniques to team members.
• Represent the group at external meetings or seminars.
• Collaborate on projects with partner institutions.
