Job summary

UTMB Health is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow II in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology to conduct and present research under a faculty mentor. This training position focuses on developing independent research skills and contributing to ongoing projects within the department.

The candidate will design experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings through notebooks, reports, and manuscripts, while participating in training of junior personnel and literature reviews.

Qualifications

• Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent and two years postdoctoral research experience.
• Experience designing research protocols and safety procedures.
• Ability to collect, analyze, and present research data.
• Experience supervising lab personnel and coordinating research efforts.
• Experience performing literature searches as needed.
• Assist with ordering and maintenance of laboratory supplies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee media preparation, animal maintenance, equipment maintenance, quality control analysis of reagents.

Ph.D., M.D. or Doctoral equivalent in any field and two (2) years of completed Postdoctoral Fellow research experience.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct, report and present research in his/her field of study under the supervision of a faculty mentor. This is a training position, and is not expected to be a permanent position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Design and implement research protocols; design safety procedures; adapt new procedures, methods or instrumentation relative to research procedures.
• Oversee media preparation, animal maintenance and equipment maintenance, quality control analysis of reagents.
• Collect, prepare, and analyze research data; keep a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data; maintain computer database of research data; tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation; use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data.
• Supervise other personnel in the laboratory to coordinate research efforts for increased efficiency; participate in training of fellows, residents, students and volunteer workers as needed.
• Search pertinent scientific literature as needed.
• Assist with ordering and procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory.
  

SALARY:

Commensurate with experience.
