Job summary

Argonne National Laboratory’s Emergent Materials and Processes Group in Lemont, IL seeks a Postdoctoral Appointee to advance metallization and decarbonized metal production via aqueous, non-aqueous, and molten salt electrolysis. The role includes electrolyte development, material synthesis, and reporting on progress with a strong emphasis on leadership in R&D.

The candidate will conduct research, publish results, and present findings while collaborating with the AMD to strengthen electrolysis

Qualifications

• Recent or soon-to-be-completed PhD in chemistry, materials science, metallurgy, electrochemistry, electrometallurgy, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Experience with electrochemistry, electrochemical analysis, and electrodeposition in aqueous, non-aqueous, and molten salt electrolyte formulations, including performance enhancing additives.
• Industrial experience with materials synthesis including material plating & solution-based processing.
• Experience with glovebox operation and safely handling air sensitive chemicals.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and innovation skills; strong organizational and time management abilities.

• This position requires on-site presence five days a week at the Argonne campus in Lemont, Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Perform technical work related to the development of new processes for metals production and processing.
• Prepare formal reports, make presentations, and publish to establish leadership position in R&D for metallization.
