Job summary

The Spatial Artificial Intelligence Lab at the University of Houston is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join our growing research team. Our work develops AI and ML methods to advance biological and clinical discovery, with emphasis on single-cell and spatial biology, biomedical imaging, and cancer research.

The successful candidate will lead interdisciplinary projects, develop independent research directions, and contribute to high-impact publications and grant proposals.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. or equivalent by anticipated start date in relevant fields.
• Strong quantitative and computational research training.
• Proficiency in programming languages for scientific computing such as Python and/or R.
• Experience conducting independent research and communicating findings.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply bioinformatics, ML and deep-learning methods to extract insights from multimodal biomedical datasets.
• Design and maintain computational pipelines analyzing large-scale biomedical data including digital pathology and single-cell data.
• Conduct research related to tissue characterization, tumor microenvironments and precision oncology.
• Design and execute computational experiments and perform rigorous statistical analyses.
• Prepare manuscripts for publication and present findings at conferences.
• Collaborate across computational science, biology, pathology, and medicine; contribute to grant proposals.
• Mentor graduate and undergraduate researchers and participate in lab meetings.
