Job Summary:

The Postdoctoral Fellow provides for an internship and continuation of scholarly activity and research after achieving the PhD or other doctoral degree under the direction of a senior faculty member who serves as a mentor for the postdoctoral appointee.

The Alabama Life Research Institute (ALRI) and the Alabama Center for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (ALA AI) at The University of Alabama invite applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow. This position, funded by ALRI, offers an initial one-year appointment, with renewal contingent upon availability of funding.

Conducts cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science, with a particular focus on neuroscience applications. Designs AI techniques and algorithms for multimodal data fusion (e.g., MRI, EEG, cognitive and behavioral data, blood biomarkers, and electronic health records) and developing computational models. Establishes frameworks for data modernization, integrating metadata and varied datasets to create databases suitable for cross-disciplinary AI research and learning.

Incorporates advanced methodologies such as deep neural networks and language/multimodal models, leading the preparation of scientific papers and technical reports, presenting research findings, and contributing to the development of proposals for external funding.

Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in computer science, medical, health informatics, or other related field. Candidates will need to have completed their Ph.D. or have it completed by the start of employment.

Skills and Knowledge:

Strong programming/scripting capabilities. Skills in data science, artificial intelligence, and health informatics. Strong written and verbal communication skills regarding research results.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with deep/graph neural networks and active involvement in data science and machine learning projects. Experience in multimodal data fusion (e.g., MRI, EEG, and health records). Background in computational modeling and machine learning.
