Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories seeks a Computational Scientist for radiation transport modeling across electron, X-ray, and gamma-ray regimes to support nuclear deterrence missions. The role involves developing new features, running simulations on high-performance computing systems, and collaborating to inform design decisions for resilience.

Applicants should have a PhD in a STEM field within five years, experience with radiation transport and multi-physics, and the ability to obtain DOE Q

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computational Science, Engineering, Physics, Applied Math or related STEM field conferred within 5 years of start date.
  • Experience with nuclear engineering, computational modeling, and simulation of radiation transport/effects and/or multi-physics applications.
  • Publication of research results in peer reviewed journals.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Implement new features and algorithms or improve existing functionality while maintaining code quality for radiation transport codes.
  • Develop models and run simulations on high-performance computing systems to predict radiation transport and effects.
  • Perform fundamental research around radiation physics and effects on materials to address next-generation problems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to write research proposals and present results at workshops and meetings.
