University of Florida in Gainesville seeks a postdoctoral researcher in computational biological modeling to develop, calibrate, and validate digital twin architectures and computational workflows for critical care problems. You will build reusable software, model libraries, and ensemble methods while contributing to peer‑reviewed publications.
The position is for one year with annual renewal based on performance and funding.
At the University of Florida, we are a people of purpose. We're committed to challenging convention and ourselves. We see things not as they are, but as they could be. And we strive for a greater impact: one measured in people helped...
The candidate will hold a Ph.D. in computer science, biomedical engineering, computational biology, systems biology, applied mathematics, or a closely related field. The candidate will have experience in scientific software development, computational modeling, simulation, digital twins, or workflow modeling as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications. Experience in the Python programming language is a requirement.
Dr. T.J. Sego is recruiting for one postdoctoral position in computational biological modeling. The postdoctoral position will develop, implement, calibrate, and validate digital twin architectures and computational workflows in critical care applications. The work will include developing reusable scientific software, model-format libraries, evolutionary ensemble methods, workflow twin testbeds, and dual-timescale refinement frameworks. The postdoctoral position is available immediately for a duration of one year and subject to annual renewal based on performance and availability of funds.
The candidate will carry out research tasks aligned with project goals to produce deliverables following project timelines. They will lead development of resulting submissions to academic journals for scholarly publication. The candidate will also assist with scoping future projects and identifying opportunities for follow-up work based on project findings. They will contribute to the development of subsequent research questions, proposals, and related deliverables to support continued scholarly activity.
The University of Florida is situated in beautiful Gainesville, FL, a thriving town with a low cost of living, outstanding community, access to numerous parks and recreational facilities, and year-round outdoor weather. Dr. Sego’s research focuses on development of computational biological models, simulation methods and software, and their application to problems in critical care, respiratory disease and immune response. As a member of the Laboratory for Systems Medicine, the candidate will work in a highly collaborative research environment that closely integrates quantitative, clinical and experimental research.
$65,000 annually
The candidate will also have experience with collaborative software development practices, including version control, automated testing, continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines, and reproducible computational workflows. Experience with systems biology model formats, including SBML or Antimony, evolutionary or ensemble-based computational methods, model calibration and validation, or performance and risk assessment is preferred. The candidate must have strong communication skills in the form of effective public speaking and clear, concise writing.
