Postdoctoral Associate, Operations Management and Strategy

Position Title Postdoctoral Associate, Operations Management and Strategy

The University at Buffalo School of Management’s Center for Supply Chain Analytics seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to join our team and develop a research agenda leading to production of research articles, project reports, analysis reports, and other outputs related to two projects.

NY SMART I-Corridor – As an official awardee of the New York Semiconductor Manufacturing and Research Technology Innovation Corridor (NY SMART I-Corridor) Tech Hub initiative, the Center for Supply Chain Analytics leads the Supply Chain Activation Network ( SCAN ) project to expand participation of businesses in the region as suppliers to the semiconductor industry. The goal is to promote inclusive economic growth in the region and the development of a diverse and resilient supply chain for the semiconductor industry while establishing a globally leading semiconductor cluster that designs and delivers semiconductor solutions for the region, the nation, and the world.

Center of Excellence for Cross-Border Supply Chains – The center’s team will conduct multiple research projects aiming to advance the state of the science regarding cross-border supply chains and operations management. For example, investigating costs and benefits related to the adoption of state-of-the-art technologies that permit tracking and chain of custody. The team will also explore machine learning and artificial intelligence-driven approaches to industry challenges, such as warehouse management, ocean freight optimization, and reshoring high-technology industry sectors such as semiconductors and electric vehicles. Furthermore, the team will develop predictive tools to anticipate the impact of global events on supply chains and logistics.

Working in collaboration with the research team, the Postdoctoral Associate’s primary responsibilities will be:

• Conceptualization of research agenda
• Data acquisition, cleaning and analysis
• Preparation and presentation of research outputs
• Travel within the Northeastern United States and Canada
• Participation in project administration, events and reporting

Additionally, the candidate chosen may be assigned courses to teach in the Operations Management and Strategy area, for which additional compensation would be provided.

Dr. Milind Sohoni, chair of the Operations Management and Strategy department, and faculty director of the Center for Supply Chain Analytics, will serve as the primary supervisor. Jennifer Flagg, executive director of the Center for Supply Chain Analytics will provide additional supervision and direction.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong interest in international business and global /cross-border supply chain analytics and associated policies is highly desired.
• Strong interest in semiconductors or high-tech manufacturing is a plus.
• Preference will be given to those who are able to start work immediately.
