Job description

Postdoctoral Associate in statistical science

Mar 5, 2019

The Department of Statistical Science at Duke University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associate in statistical science. The Associate will work on methodological research related to one or more of the following topics, depending on the candidate’s interests: (1) methods for protecting data confidentiality using differential privacy, including approaches for obtaining valid inferences from and generating differentially private synthetic data, (2) methods for handling non-ignorably missing values in large-scale social science data, including methods that utilize information from auxiliary data sources, and (iii) approaches to accounting for uncertainty in record linkage settings. The Associate will be supervised by Jerry Reiter, professor in the Department of Statistical Science.

The ideal candidate will hold a Ph.D. in statistical science or a related field and will have strong background in complex Bayesian modeling, computation in high dimensions, and an interest in social science/government applications. No previous experience in data confidentiality, missing data, or record linkage methods is necessary, although such experience will be viewed favorably. The Associate will be expected to participate in methodological research leading to publications in top statistical and applied journals. The appointment will be for a one year contract with potential for up to two years renewal. Salary is $65,125 per year.

Applicants should apply through Academic Jobs Online (https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/13327 ). Materials to upload include a CV, a statement of background and interests in the particular research described above, and contact information only for three references. Contact Jerry Reiter with questions (jreiter@duke.edu ).

All applications received by March 7 will be fully considered, and the position will remain open until filled.
