Job description

Postdoctoral Associate – CEE Urban Informatics Lab & The Infrastructure Resilience Group

The Rutgers CEE Urban Informatics Lab and The Infrastructure Resilience Group at Rutgers Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) invite applications for two postdoctoral fellow positions in the general areas of community resilience, critical infrastructure protection, and smart cities.

Applicants are expected to work on research projects funded by NSF, FEMA, DHS and other agencies, leading activities that harness and synthesize the latest developments in artificial intelligence, remote sensing, simulation and modeling techniques in infrastructure engineering, social science, and hydrologic science to improve resilience and security of urban environments during natural and man-made extreme events.

They will work in a state‑of‑the‑art lab equipped with mobile and static lidar systems, infrared thermography cameras, drones, EEG, advanced computing and visualization systems such as CAVE, VR, AR, and computing clusters. They will also have access to live testbeds for studies related to early flood warning systems, air quality prediction, and security in soft targets and crowded places.

Responsibilities

  • Lead research activities and synthesize AI, remote sensing, and simulation methods to improve urban resilience.
  • Publish conference and journal papers, collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, and write grant proposals.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Coastal Marine Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in deep learning for image and point cloud data processing, time series prediction, digital twin, geospatial mapping with vehicular/UAV remote sensing, robotic systems, crowd simulation, reinforcement learning, flood modelling, complex system modelling, and optimization.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
