Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA is seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to join the Materials Physics team for advanced atomistic simulations and materials modeling. You will apply DFT, MD, and kinetic Monte Carlo to understand oxide formation, helium bubble nucleation, and hydride stability in irradiated materials.

You will interact with multidisciplinary experts, present findings at conferences, and contribute to publications while working onsite in a fast-paced research environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience publishing peer-reviewed journal articles.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Apply atomistic simulations (e.g., DFT, molecular dynamics, kinetic Monte Carlo) to study interstitial interactions in metals under extreme environments.
  • Develop models of microstructure evolution and mechanical properties of aging structural materials.
  • Work independently and contribute to team efforts; present results at national/international meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
