University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) invites applications for a Postdoc Research Associate in the Adaikpoh Laboratory, Retzky College of Pharmacy. The successful candidate will study ecological relationships between plants and bacteria to identify antimicrobial natural products.

The role involves genome analysis, transcriptomics, gene deletion, metabolite isolation, and collaboration across labs, with mentoring duties for students and active participation in seminars.

Qualifications

• PhD in Molecular Biology, Pharmacognosy, Microbiology, Chemistry or Biochemistry.

Position Summary
The research in the Adaikpoh Laboratory at the University of Illinois Chicago, Retzky College of Pharmacy (https://adaikpoh.lab.uic.edu/), explores the ecological relationships between plants and their bacteria to identify new antimicrobial natural products.
Duties & Responsibilities

• Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Keep accurate records of the experiments suitable for writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
• Present the results at scientific meetings.
• Participate in weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs, and seminars within the Department.
• Design and conduct research and analyze results together with mentor, Dr. Barbara I. Adaikpoh.
• Research activities may include bacterial genome analysis, transcriptomic studies, gene deletion, heterologous expression of bacterial gene clusters, metabolite analyses, and antibacterial and antifungal analysis.
• Mentorship activities such as working with undergraduate and graduate students.
• Collaborative activities such as working with labs within UIC and in other institutions.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Pharmacognosy, Microbioloby, Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related discipline.
• Publication record in microbial natural products research or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with techniques such as gene deletion, heterologous gene cluster expression, transcriptomics, and bacterial genome mining for natural product discovery.
• Previous experience with HPLC, mass spectrometry, and analytical techniques for metabolite isolation and elucidation.
• Demonstrate technical expertise in molecular biology, microbiology, and/or genomics and transcriptomics as applied to natural products research.
