Résumé du poste

The University of Louisville invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Geographic and Environmental Sciences to advance a NASA-funded project on urban land-cover and land-use in short-range weather prediction. The role focuses on data integration, model parameterization, HPC execution, and results dissemination.

Collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with opportunities to publish in high-impact journals and contribute to open science practices, software development, and urban

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Geography, Remote Sensing, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline completed by the appointment start date.
  • Experience with numerical weather prediction models (e.g., WRF) or regional atmospheric modeling systems.
  • Experience processing and analyzing remote sensing, geospatial, meteorological, or model data.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Fortran, R, or shell scripting.
  • Experience working in Linux/Unix computing environments.
  • Record of research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications or comparable scholarly outputs.
  • Strong written, oral, and collaborative communication skills.

Responsabilités

  • Ingest high-resolution, remotely sensed land-surface products into atmospheric modeling systems (WRF/Noah-MP).
  • Configure and execute numerical weather prediction workflows on HPC clusters and LES experiments.
  • Process and aggregate multi-source Earth observation data into simulation-ready parameters.
  • Post-process, analyze, and visualize model outputs and compare with observations.
  • Collaborate on managing observational data from local meteorological micronets.
  • Quantitatively assess model accuracy against in situ data; run scenario-based simulations for UHI mitigation.
  • Lead and co-author peer-reviewed publications and support open-science practices.
