Job summary

UT-Battelle at Oak Ridge National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance experimental photonic quantum sensing and computing. You will work in the Quantum Sensing and Computing Group within CSED, contributing to state-of-the-art quantum technologies.

The role emphasizes hands-on experimental work in optics, with opportunities to publish and present findings at major conferences, and collaborate with a broad national lab community.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics or a related field completed within the last 5 years.
• Strong experimental experience in quantum optics, optomechanics, optical cavities, or photonic sensing and computing.
• Experience with control electronics, data acquisition systems, ML/AI for control and optimization.
• Experience with vacuum and cryogenic systems.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in teams.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced research environment with multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Participate in experimental research in photonic quantum sensing and computing.
• Develop solutions for quantum sensing and computing problems of national interest.
• Interpret, report, and present research to national audiences.
• Publish peer-reviewed articles and present at conferences.
