Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow to study the vaginal microbiome and host transcriptional responses during pregnancy. The project leverages the MOMS-PI cohort and integrates sequencing, metagenomics, and host–pathogen analyses.

You will collaborate with a bioinformatics team and contribute to manuscript preparation, training junior staff, and dissemination of findings at labs and conferences.

Formación

• Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology, genomics, immunology, cell biology, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including nucleic acid extraction, quantification, and PCR.
• Experience preparing sequencing libraries or high-throughput molecular methods.
• At least one first-author peer-reviewed publication or manuscript under review.
• Meticulous record-keeping and ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and uphold professional environment as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at VCU.

Responsabilidades

• Extract, purify and QC DNA and RNA from vaginal samples and tissues.
• Perform digital PCR, qPCR, and multiplex cytokine assays.
• Prepare total RNA libraries and coordinate sequencing runs.
• Prepare samples for single-cell profiling on the 10x Chromium X platform.
• Prepare tissue sections for spatial transcriptomics using CytAssist and Visium.
• Generate shotgun metagenomic libraries and sequence microbial isolates.
• Develop and optimize enrichment strategies for low-biomass specimens.
• Perform 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing and taxonomic analysis.
• Lead manuscript writing and data deposition for publication.
