Job summary

The Yang Lab at the University of Virginia School of Medicine is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Associate in genetic and molecular epidemiology. Qualifications

  • PhD, MD, or equivalent degree in epidemiology, genetics, genomics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field, awarded or expected before the start date.
  • Experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data and population-based cohort data with solid programming in R and/or Python.
  • Experience with genomic, epitranscriptomic, and/or epigenomic data (e.g., WGS, RNA-seq, m6A-seq).
  • Prior experience with microbiome data analysis.
  • Familiarity with AI assistants and coding agents in a research setting.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct genetic and molecular epidemiology research under co-mentorship from UVA faculty.
  • Engage in training across genetic epidemiology, bioinformatics, and computational biology.
  • Contribute to or lead wider lab research directions and multi-omics analyses.
  • Support and integrate AI tools to enhance reproducible research workflows.
