Job summary

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to study high-temperature processing and reaction science of rare earth metals and alloys. You will design specialized high-temperature equipment and combine thermal analysis, diffraction, microscopy, and kinetics to establish processing-structure-property relationships.

Qualifications

  • PhD required in a closely related field with a DOE Q-level capable citizenship.
  • Experience in high-temperature materials processing and molten metal systems is essential.
  • Strong track record with materials characterization and data interpretation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, operate, and maintain controlled-atmosphere and high-temperature experimental equipment.
  • Investigate wetting and interface reactions between metals and containment materials.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences.
  • Collaborate across CFD, CALPHAD modeling, and time-resolved diffraction.
  • Maintain safety, documentation, and compliance standards.
