The Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies seeks a collaborative postdoctoral associate to join the Western Fire and Forest Resilience Collaborative and the Forest Futures Lab. Based in the Hudson Valley, NY, this full-time exempt position offers an initial one-year appointment with renewal contingent on performance and funding.

The successful candidate will integrate geospatial and climate data to relate climate, fire, and vegetation across western US grasslands and shrublands, and will help

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Grassland/Disturbance Ecology or related field required
  • Experience in broad-scale geospatial analysis of western US ecosystems preferred
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R and Python; familiarity with JavaScript
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required

Responsibilities

  • Present research findings in peer-reviewed papers and at meetings
  • Lead and implement independent research within the Fire Collaborative
  • Use climate and geospatial data in AI and statistical frameworks
  • Develop a grass and shrub module for an existing simulation model
  • Engage with boundary spanners, scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to a dynamic interdisciplinary research environment
