Job summary

Northeastern University’s Woolston Lab seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead a NIH-funded program at the interface of anaerobic microbiology, enzyme biochemistry, and natural products discovery.

The successful candidate will conduct independent research, mentor students, and disseminate findings through publications and conference presentations while collaborating with a diverse interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related field.
• Demonstrated publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
• Experience characterizing natural products biosynthesis or oxygen-sensitive enzymes (e.g., iron-sulfur proteins, radical enzymes).
• Experience with modern bacterial genetics workflows including cloning, CRISPR-based tools, and transposon mutagenesis.
• Experience with anaerobic microbiology techniques and genome mining/biosynthetic gene cluster analysis.

Responsibilities

• Conduct independent research, developing assays, designing experiments, generating data, and analyzing results.
• Discuss and plan research with Prof. Woolston; complete activities independently.
• Present progress in meetings with Prof. Woolston and in group settings.
• Prepare manuscripts, patent applications, and other scholarly materials; contribute to funding agency reports.
