Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Interdisciplinary Science Department to perform research on electric power grids. The appointment is for one year with a possible renewal.

The selected candidate will model and simulate cyber-physical power systems, study dynamics under high inverter-based resources, and develop AI/ML methods for planning, operation, and cybersecurity of the grid.

Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Math, or other related fields with a broad knowledge of electric power systems.
• Experience with cyber-power system modeling, simulation, dynamics, and Python and/or MATLAB programming.
• A strong background in AI/ML applications in the power grid.
• Good written and oral communication skills, be willing to take direction, and be able to work with others as part of a project team.

Responsibilities

• Perform cyber-physical system modeling and simulation for the power grid.
• Perform research on power system dynamics and control under high inverter-based resources (IBRs).
• Develop and apply AI/ML techniques for power system planning, operation, control, and cybersecurity.
