Job summary

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to advance welding technologies through state-of-the-art modeling and experimental validation. You will develop and apply advanced process models (FEA/CFD) to understand joining processes, with opportunities in materials characterization and data-driven optimization.

The role involves leading projects, validating predictions with experiments, and publishing results at conferences, while collaborating across the Sigma

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering, materials science, metallurgy, physics, or related field completed within the last five years or nearing completion.
• Experience with FEA/CFD modeling for welding and additive manufacturing is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent research projects with mentor and W&J team.
• Validate computational predictions through experiments and advanced characterization.
• Develop innovative methods to solve complex manufacturing challenges.
• Collaborate across the Sigma Division and with external partners.
• Author technical papers and present findings at national conferences.
• Contribute to proposal development for future R&D opportunities.
• Provide technical welding, joining, and metallurgical expertise to LANL.
