Job summary

The Flatirons Campus of the National Laboratory of the Rockies (NLR) in Colorado is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to study the acoustics of industrial equipment in the energy sector, including cooling systems, fuel cells, and distributed wind turbines. The role blends experimental microphone-array deployments with numerical model development and validation.

Qualifications

• Must be a recent PhD graduate within the last three years.
• Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
• Ph.D. in a relevant field prior to starting assignment.
• Strong coding skills in Python; data analysis with open-source software; familiarity with agentic AI tools.
• Published research in acoustics, aeroacoustics or related fields.
• Excellent writing, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Experience with numerical and experimental acoustics; field measurements; signal processing.

Responsibilities

• Execute projects on acoustic emissions of industrial equipment in the energy sector.
• Deploy microphone arrays and analyze data from field deployments.
• Develop and validate emission and propagation models against measurements.
• Collaborate with DOE offices, industry, and other laboratories; publish results.
