Job summary

Job description

Post-Doctoral Scientists at Lilly are responsible for:

• Ensuring reliability of manufacturing systems
• Searching for and implementing continuous improvements
• Driving technical projects
• Maintaining processes in compliance with US and global regulations
• Designing and developing drug processes and delivery systems

The position provides technical and scientific support for development of commercial processes (synthesis and purification) for biomolecules including proteins, peptides, and oligonucleotides. Responsibilities include designing and executing experiments to advance process knowledge, process optimization, and production technical transfer.

Key objectives/deliverables:

• Understand scientific principles for manufacturing intermediates, drug substances, and drug products (chemistry and equipment interaction)
• Understand chemistry and stability of small molecules, peptides, and/or biomolecules
• Develop laboratory-scale models for key synthesis/purification steps
• Design, conduct, and analyze statistically designed experiments to optimize processing conditions
• Understand scale-up requirements and partner with pilot plant as needed
• Provide technical support for process development areas
• Write and document work appropriately
• Mentor lab associates
• Participate in technology transfer as needed
• Work independently and collaboratively

Basic requirements:

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biology, Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, or related fields
• Demonstrated experience in protein, oligonucleotide, and peptide chemistry and/or purification
• Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations/posters at scientific conferences

Additional information:

• Fixed duration: two years with potential to extend to 3 years; up to 4 years total; opportunities to apply for full-time roles afterward
