Job description

Position Summary:

The Cowell Lab in the Divisions of Environmental Pediatrics and Epidemiology at NYU has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a postdoctoral fellow. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for collaborating with the Principal Investigator and working independently within the scientific framework of the PI’s laboratory.

Details:

The Cowell Lab collaborates with a large, prospective birth cohort study at NYU. The selected scholar will join this vibrant team with many opportunities to further engage with the diverse research community across the medical center and broader university. Dr. Cowell’s team conducts environmental and molecular epidemiology research on a range of chemical and non-chemical stressors in relation to maternal and perinatal health. Projects include analysis of existing large-scale microbiome data; analysis of endocrine disrupting chemicals, microplastics, and other environmental pollutants in relation to placenta endpoints and maternal and perinatal health; and analysis of endogenous biomarkers, including oxidative stress and telomere length. Opportunities for developing projects with existing data available through our birth cohort study or the nation-wide ECHO consortium will also be encouraged. Primary responsibilities will include study design, data analysis, manuscript preparation, and attending regular team meetings to present research findings. The candidate will also be encouraged to pursue K99/R00 (or forecasted KT1) funding and will be supported in this endeavor. In this position, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to enhance existing advanced statistical analysis skills, gain experience in manuscript and grant writing, and further develop an understanding of environmental, molecular and perinatal epidemiology methods.

Qualifications:
  • PhD in environmental health, epidemiology, data science or biostatistics
  • Experience and expertise using statistical software, with a preference for R
  • Experience with epidemiological analyses
  • Strong record of scientific publications and research excellence
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
