Job summary

The University of Minnesota in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a researcher to support molecular epidemiology projects in a hands-on, in-person role at 385 AnSc Vet Med.

You will conduct analyses, manage data, collaborate on papers and grants, and participate in meetings, seminars, and outreach while traveling as needed.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. required with advanced training in epidemiology, biostatistics, and molecular biology.
• Experience interpreting diagnostic tests and applying molecular methods.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research and provide technical assistance on data analyses for food animal disease molecular epidemiology.
• Generate and organize research data for future projects.
• Collaborate with the PI on hypotheses, data analysis, and preparation of papers, grants, and talks.
• Attend and present at lab meetings, seminars, and conferences as needed.
• Administrative and project coordination including organizing meetings and coordinating projects.
• Build and maintain communication with collaborators and travel as required to collect data.

50%- Research and Technical Support in Molecular Epidemiology

• Conduct research and provide technical assistance to the PI, students, and trainees on data analyses related to food animal disease molecular epidemiology.

10%- Research Data Management

• Generate and organize research data for future projects.

10%- Research Collaboration and Scientific Communication

• Collaborate with the PI in the generation and testing of research hypotheses and data analysis, writing of papers, grants, reports, and preparation of presentations and lectures.

10%- Professional Development and Scientific Engagement

• Attend, participate, or present at laboratory meetings, seminars, graduate and undergraduate lectures, and conferences as needed.

10%- Administrative and Project Coordination

• Perform miscellaneous office duties as assigned by the PI including, but not limited to, the organization and coordination of meetings and projects.

10%- Collaboration and Partnership Development

• Build and maintain frequent communication with collaborating faculty members and non-UMN collaborators and if required traveling to domestic/international destinations to meet with collaborators and collect data.

Location and Work Environment

• This is an in-person position. 385 AnSc Vet Med, 1988 Fitch Ave, St Paul, MN

Work Schedule

• Regular schedule would be 830 to 430 on weekdays.
• Occasionally there may be a Saturday/Sunday in which the candidate may be presenting research output at a scientific conference or travelling to a farm to collect samples.

Required Qualifications

  • Swine health and production knowledge

Teaching

The Veterinary Population Medicine Department provides clinical instruction in medicine, surgery, production medicine, diagnostics and reproduction of domestic large-animal species and is home to faculty in epidemiology, veterinary public health, and pathology. The department provides residency training in large animal medicine, surgery, pathology, and veterinary public health and preventive veterinary medicine and works with students in the Veterinary Sciences, and Comparative and Molecular Biosciences graduate programs.

Research

Faculty members conduct animal and public-health-focused research to better diagnose, treat, eliminate and prevent animal disease, as well as diseases that can be transmitted between animals and humans.

Service

Faculty members provide clinical services for animals in the Leatherdale Equine Center and Large Animal Hospital, as well as diagnostic services to animal owners through the Veterinary Diagnostics Laboratory. They consult with producers and veterinarians in the community, provide continuing education and extension programs for veterinarians and animal owners, and play an active role in the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety, John Fetrow Dairy Education Center, Equine Center, and the Swine Disease Eradication Center.

Pay Rate: $62,232.00 annually
