Job description

About the Job

A postdoctoral position is available in Dr. Shunqing Liang's laboratory at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, & Nutrition. Our laboratory is dedicated to applying the CRISPR-mediated genome-editing techniques for Gene Therapy and Cancer Research. Our long‑term goal is to harness the capabilities of CRISPR to develop precise and targeted genome-editing strategies tailored to the challenges of lung and liver disease. This innovative approach holds promise for unlocking new avenues in gene therapy, cancer research, and immunotherapy.

The individuals will use CRISPR techniques to characterize cancer‑associated mutations and identify neoantigens related to lung cancer and liver cancer. They will also learn experimental approaches and methods to investigate the pathogenic impact of aberrant mutations on tumorigenesis and biology. They will participate in collaborative projects and present their work at national and international conferences.

We employ multidisciplinary approaches, including genetically engineered mouse models, CRISPR screens, Prime editors, Protein engineering, AAVs, LNP, single‑cell RNA sequencing, FACS, Immunohistochemistry, and next‑generation sequencing. Additional information on our research projects can be found in our recent publications, including Nature Methods, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Communications, Cancer Research, EMBO Molecular Medicine, and Oncogene.

Qualifications
  • Recent Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. with a strong background in cancer biology, molecular biology, or related fields.
  • Excellent in in‑vivo gene editing, including applying and developing next‑generation gene‑editing technologies, such as prime editing, base editing, and recombinases.
  • Excellent technical skills for mouse in‑vivo work comprising but not limited to IV injections, retro‑orbital bleeding, necropsy.
  • Knowledge and experience in advanced in‑vivo techniques such as liver perfusion and hepatocyte isolation, intratracheal injection, lung function assays.
  • Evidence of a publication record in relevant peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Highly motivated candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in one programming language is a plus but not required (Python, R/Matlab).
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: Pay is based on NIH Stipends & years of experience, ranging from $63,480–$77,076; dependent on education/qualifications/experience.
