Job description

Post-Doctoral Associate, AD - Mitchum 1 & 2

Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the molecular basis of plant‑nematode interactions, including identifying nematode genes important for parasitism and overcoming host plant resistance, and characterizing host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance.
  • Handle and analyze genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets, clone candidate plant and nematode genes, and use a variety of molecular and genetic approaches to characterize gene function in nematode parasitism in crop and model plant systems.
  • Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for experiments, including planting, watering, harvesting seed, and propagating nematode cultures.
  • Collect and analyze data from experiments, both independently and in collaboration with the principal investigator.
  • Write and report research findings in both written and oral formats, preparing research updates, periodic reports for funding agencies, and discussing results with the PI.
  • Present research results to the scientific community, including at local, national, and international professional scientific meetings.
  • Supervise student workers, providing mentorship and working alongside the PI to guide undergraduate researchers in laboratory work.
