Job Purpose

Postdoctoral Associates are temporary fixed-term Faculty dedicated to the pursuit of greater professional expertise after the attainment of the doctoral degree. This category recognizes that doctoral recipients in some disciplines may require intensive advanced work in a particular discipline before seeking permanent employment. Postdoctoral Associates are not eligible for extended-term appointments. It is characteristic of Postdoctoral Associates to work with a small set of faculty mentors who are responsible for directing the employee's research and training.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will participate in the research program of Prof. Jifa Tian’s research lab to investigate nontrivial quantum phenomena in 2D materials. The project involves 2D material preparation and handling, quantum device fabrication, and transport measurements at low temperatures. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated ability to carry out effective and productive research, effective communication with faculty, staff, and students, and experience in at least one of the above-mentioned areas.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Doctoral Degree is required for this position; however, consideration will be given to applicants that are currently pursuing their Doctoral Degree and will complete the degree prior to starting work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in physics, materials sciences, electrical engineering, or a closely related area.
  • Experience in 2D materials preparation and handling, nanofabrication, and quantum transport at low temperatures.
  • Demonstrated ability for effective communication with faculty, staff, and students, and experience in magnetotransport studies in nanostructured materials and devices.
Work Location

On-campus: The position requires the successful candidate to be available to work on campus.
