Job summary

Job description

What You Will Do

The Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group is seeking a strong candidate who is interested in radiation detection and measurement research. The selected candidate must have recently completed a degree in a science from a university of good standing. The candidate will work with scientists in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group on projects related to nuclear forensics, medical isotope production, and treaty verification and monitoring. The candidate will also have the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues in Chemistry and Physics Divisions. The Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group specializes in the radioanalytical chemistry and radiometric measurement of low-level radionuclides and supports a wide range of LANL missions.

Minimum Job Requirements:



  • Undergraduate degree in science or engineering, with in the last two years is required.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in science or engineering.

  • Good oral, written and presentation communication skills

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Record of fostering a mutually respectful and inclusive work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment


Desired Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of basic principles of nuclear decay and spectroscopy

  • Interests in nuclear nonproliferation, design of radiation detection systems or nuclear reactor design

  • Experience working with computers, and basic programming

  • Experience working in a laboratory setting


Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.


New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
