Job summary

Aransas County, Texas is seeking a part-time Kennel Technician to maintain the animal control center, clean and sterilize equipment and enclosures, and feed and care for animals in Rockport, TX. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare animals for rabies testing and transport to lab.
• Maintain animal holding facility, grounds, vehicle, and equipment per state regulations.
• Assist in euthanizing stray and unwanted animals.
• Care for animals daily: feeding, watering, bathing, and de-fleaing.
• Clean and disinfect facility and enclosures daily.
• Clean and disinfect food bowls, litter pans, and other equipment daily.
• Maintain and report inventory to Animal Control Lead Officer.
• Exercise and provide daily attention to animals.

Summary of Position

Maintain the animal control center; clean and sterilize equipment and enclosures; and feed and care for animals.

Organizational Relationships

• Reports to: Animal Control Lead Officer.
• Directs: This is a non-supervisory position.
• Other: Has contact with other county employees, animal shelters, local veterinarians and the general public.

Examples of Work/Essential Duties

• Help prepare animals for rabies testing and transportation to lab.
• Assist in the maintenance of animal holding facility, grounds, vehicle, and equipment in accordance with state regulations.
• Assist in euthanizing stray and unwanted animals.
• Care for animals, including feeding, watering, bathing and de-fleaing on a daily basis.
• Clean and disinfect facility and animal enclosures on a daily basis.
• Clean and disinfect food bowls, litter pans, and other equipment on a daily basis.
• Maintain and report inventory to Animal Control Lead Officer.
• Exercise and give attention to animals on a daily basis.

Other Important Duties

• Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of: animal behavior; health regulations; city ordinances and state laws relating to animal control; equipment operations and record preparation.

Skill/Ability to: safely and properly handle and care for animals; establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, vendors and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; maintain necessary certifications and work flexible hours, including weekends.
