Job description

We are seeking a Portfolio Steering and CAT Risk Analyst for our Marine line of business. The specific nature of Marine risks, including static and non-static exposures (modelled and non-modelled exposures) requires management within a consistent global framework. Rapidly evolving exposures, risk mitigation approaches, tools, processes, and research demand continuous adaptation and up-to-date expertise. Detailed business monitoring and portfolio steering activities require sustained involvement and analytical focus.

This role is vital to understanding exposure hotspots, market changes that affect a portfolio, and related trends/changes within the competitor landscape. The current and future initiatives must be achieved. This role will work a hybrid schedule based in our New York City office.

We are responsible for strategic portfolio monitoring, natural catastrophe and terrorism portfolio modelling, accumulation management, data quality oversight, and reinsurance-related analytics. Using cutting-edge tools such as Foundry and industry-leading CAT modelling platforms, we collaborate closely with underwriters, actuaries, and reinsurance teams to ensure our Marine portfolio remains resilient, profitable, and well-positioned for growth. The Impact You Will Have

Reporting to the Global Product Leader - Cargo, this position will identify and quantify global Marine NatCat accumulation risks, including modelled and non-modelled exposures across all relevant Sub Lines, to support effective risk mitigation and underwriting controls. Apply catastrophe modelling expertise to meet team objectives and guide others. Collaborate closely with Product Leaders, the CUO Technical Office, and Regional Marine Underwriting to enhance NatCat underwriting strategy and controls. Maintain underwriting tools that enable assessment of individual risk exposures, portfolio impacts, and capacity steering, including risk visualization, while ensuring alignment with authority frameworks. Partner with NatCat Management and CFO Risk Management to ensure consistency with overall accumulation strategy, accurate reporting of Marine values, and appropriate reflection of risks in pricing and model development.

Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
  • Develop Nat Cat Underwriting tools and reports specific for Marine both to enable portfolio steering and to support the Underwriting process. Run Catastrophe loss modelling reports and prepare regular and ad‑hoc data extracts and reports for the monitoring of AzC Marine global loss potential - including portfolio analyses, CAT limit monitoring (AzC Group and AzC internal limits), supporting global business steering and providing input to ensure adequate Reinsurance protection. Cooperate closely with the Product Leaders, Technical Office and Regional Underwriting specialists. Support the definition of the risk appetite and capacity steering.
  • Serve as business owner for IT and data initiatives, leading end‑to‑end scoping, prioritization, and delivery of reporting and transformation projects—ensuring solutions such as Power BI dashboards directly support Marine underwriting and portfolio steering strategy while advancing the data platform landscape
  • Provide on the spot consultancy and translate or explain CAT Modeling results and reports to Marine Underwriters; Communication and explanation of portfolio impact. Evaluate and make recommendations to ensure Marine specific requirements and exposures are most appropriately reflected and cater for the special nature of Marine. Training & education of the Marine Underwriting community with minimal guidance.
  • Collaboration with the Marine community and other relevant functions (Actuarial, Risk Management, Reinsurance, Nat Cat Capacity Steering Desk - NCCSD, ARC, Claims, etc.) to support business steering and portfolio management and Data Quality improvements with minimal guidance.
  • Maintain Marine Portfolio Steering and NatCat underwriting tools, providing ongoing support to the underwriting community
  • Drive innovation and change through managing the evaluation process relating to modelling upgrades as well as developing and enhancing Marine specific tools. All upgrade and change activities include technical and portfolio impact analyses and complete documentations.
What You’ll Bring to the Role -
  • Minimum 5 years’ professional insurance and/or reinsurance experience and a minimum 3 years’ understanding of underwriting practice for Marine business on a global basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably in Insurance and Risk Management, Geosciences, Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Practical experience and familiarity with multiple vendor tools
  • Project Management experience: Ability to manage projects (milestone and task planning, managing resources, project controlling, monitoring, and reporting, moderation techniques) and to develop solutions while considering complex stakeholder structures and requirements.
  • Experience using Catastrophe Modeling Software (RMS, AIR, EQECAT) and GIS (Geographical Information Systems) applications.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly Excel & VBA (knowledge in database applications is an advantage).
  • Multi-task profile with focus on effective use of own resources and handling of competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Professional communication, technical depth and ability to communicate with required levels / functions internally and externally in a global environment.
  • Ability to deliver results, develop talent and performance and drive innovation and change
  • Lead oneself and others in-line with agreed organizational strategic orientation

The annualized base pay range for this role is $101,364 to $153,200. The annual base salary range represents a nationwide market range. The actual salary for this position may be above and will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role, the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate. The base pay is just one component of the AzC total compensation package. As part of our comprehensive compensation and highly rated benefits programs, employees are also eligible for annual performance‑based cash incentive awards.
