Qualifications

Position: Portfolio Manager I - Credit | Division: Commercial Credit


Work Days: Monday - Friday | Hours of Operation: 8:00am -5:00pm

Position Overview:

The Portfolio Manager I - San Antonio is instrumental in supporting the San Antonio Region's Commercial, Business, and Private Banking Relationship Managers by overseeing the administration of credit relationships. This role is responsible for the daily management, underwriting, and quality control of credit approval, closing, and post-closing processes for existing and potential loan relationships. The Portfolio Manager I serves as the primary liaison between Relationship Managers and Credit Administration to ensure the efficient delivery of credit products to bank clientele.


Essential Functions:


  • Directly underwrite new and existing credit exposures for clients with substantial loan commitments across Small Business, Private Banking, and Commercial opportunities.

  • Oversee and coordinate the credit processing of less complex renewals and prospect approvals within the Credit Department and Consumer Underwriting department to ensure timely approval and submission.

  • Manage Commercial, Business, and Private Banking portfolios by reducing past due loans, ensuring timely renewals, minimizing reporting exceptions, monitoring financial covenants, and addressing collateral exceptions.

  • Act as a key team member for assigned Relationship Managers, enhancing internal processes to enable bankers to be more effective externally.

  • Actively monitor CRM reports and activities for Relationship Managers to ensure effective coordination, communication, and alignment with goals.

  • Prepare and review documentation and reports related to credit management and portfolio performance.

  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, addressing inquiries and providing support related to credit products and services.

  • Identify and address potential risks related to credit exposure and portfolio performance, implementing necessary mitigations.

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements in all credit-related activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the credit administration process.

  • This position may require travel within the Bank's geographic area.


Experience & Education:


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a credit analyst, commercial loan underwriter, assistant relationship manager, or in loan review.

  • Proven ability to manage workflow for multiple bankers, meet transactional deadlines, and work independently as well as within a team.

  • Bachelor's degree required; an undergraduate degree in Business with at least 12 hours of accounting preferred.


Skills & Qualifications:


  • Strong credit analytical skills and organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks effectively.

  • Demonstrated independence in decision-making and the ability to work collaboratively within an underwriting team.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and experience with bank core systems, including financial spreading software.

  • Capability to handle complex credit and loan scenarios with minimal supervision.


Other Requirements:


  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.

  • Occasional overtime or extended hours may be required.
