Qualifications

  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in commercial banking, portfolio management, credit administration, commercial lending, or a related banking function.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, manages, and develops a team of portfolio managers and commercial team assistants, including performance management, coaching, training, workflow oversight, and professional development.
  • Oversee the administration and ongoing management of the commercial loan portfolio to support sound credit quality, timely monitoring, and compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Partners with commercial relationship managers, credit administration, loan operations, treasury management, and other internal departments to ensure effective support for commercial clients and lending activities.
  • Provides guidance and oversight for credit analysis, loan renewals, covenant monitoring, borrowing base reviews, annual reviews, and other portfolio management activities.
  • Ensures portfolio managers and commercial team assistants provide timely and accurate support for loan origination, documentation, closing, funding, servicing, and ongoing relationship management activities.
  • Monitors portfolio performance, credit risk indicators, loan exceptions, maturities, past dues, covenant compliance, and other key reporting metrics.
  • Develops and implements processes, procedures, and best practices to improve portfolio management workflows, service quality, documentation accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Reviews and evaluates portfolio reporting, credit memoranda, loan presentations, and related documentation for quality, consistency, and completeness.
  • Supports commercial banking leadership in managing portfolio growth, risk management priorities, resource allocation, and team performance.
  • Facilitates communication and coordination among commercial banking, credit, loan operations, compliance, and client-facing teams to resolve issues and support timely execution.
  • Participates in client meetings, portfolio reviews, and internal credit discussions as needed to support relationship management and credit decision-making.
  • Ensures adherence to bank policies, credit standards, documentation requirements, compliance procedures, and applicable regulatory expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance systems, reporting tools, team structures, and service delivery models that support the commercial banking function.
  • Prepares and presents portfolio updates, performance reports, staffing recommendations, process improvements, and risk management insights to senior leadership.

Job Summary

Directs the commercial portfolio management function and oversees a small team of portfolio managers. Responsible for ensuring effective portfolio administration, credit support, relationship management support, loan monitoring, reporting, and coordination of commercial banking activities. Provides leadership, process oversight, and technical guidance to support sound credit quality, efficient workflows, consistent client service, and achievement of commercial banking objectives.

The salary for this role will be between $102,000 and $130,000. The specific salary offered will depend on several factors including but not limited to applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience. Hired candidates may be eligible for healthcare benefits, 401K plan, short term & long-term disability coverage, life insurance, vacation & sick time, educational assistance, and several holidays. Job Functions

Typical Experience And Education

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Five years of progressively responsible experience in commercial banking, portfolio management, credit administration, commercial lending, or a related banking function.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of commercial lending, portfolio management, credit analysis, loan structures, collateral documentation, and credit risk management practices.
  • Knowledge of banking regulations, loan policy requirements, documentation standards, and compliance expectations applicable to commercial lending.
  • Ability to lead, coach, and develop teams with varying levels of technical expertise and client support responsibility.
  • Ability to evaluate commercial credit information, portfolio trends, exceptions, and risk indicators.
  • Ability to manage workflows, prioritize competing demands, and ensure timely completion of portfolio management and commercial support activities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with commercial bankers, credit officers, loan operations, clients, and senior leadership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, loan origination systems, core banking systems, CRM platforms, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive client and credit information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced banking environment.
