We’re actively seeking a talented Portfolio Management Associate Director to join our Investment Grade Public Bond Team in Newport Beach, CA.

As a Portfolio Management Associate Director, you’ll move Pacific Life, and your career, forward by combining a strong understanding of public fixed‑income investing with advanced quantitative, data, and AI capabilities to enhance the Public Bond Group’s ability to assess risk, evaluate markets, construct portfolios, and identify investment opportunities. Through the development of analytical tools, data infrastructure, portfolio models, and AI‑enabled workflows, this individual will improve the quality, consistency, and timeliness of investment insights, enabling Portfolio Managers to make better‑informed decisions and respond more effectively to changing market conditions.

How You’ll Help Move Us Forward

Delivering accurate, accessible, and timely insights will enable the investment team to evaluate market conditions more effectively and respond more quickly to changing risks and opportunities.
  • Develop analytical frameworks and monitoring tools that help detect portfolio risks, credit deterioration, market dislocations, data anomalies, and valuation opportunities earlier. By providing more consistent and forward‑looking risk insights, the role will improve the team's ability to proactively manage our investments.
  • Spearhead the evaluation and implementation of AI‑driven capabilities that automate information gathering, synthesize research, identify emerging risks, surface relative‑value opportunities, and improve consistency across investment processes. These tools will allow investment professionals to focus more time on judgment and decision‑making while increasing the speed and breadth of analysis.

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative finance, financial engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, economics or related discipline.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL, with demonstrated experience developing investment analytics, quantitative models, portfolio tools, or data data‑driven applications used by investment professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate investment questions into quantitative analyses and analytical tools that help Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts make decisions.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to communicate complex quantitative concepts across the team.
