Job description

About Main

Main Management is a San Francisco-based, 100% partner-owned and independent asset manager and one of the early pioneers of ETF portfolio management, building portfolios from ETFs since 2002. We manage $5.6 billion in assets for financial advisors, institutions, family offices, and private clients (as of June 30, 2026).

Our approach is fundamental with a catalyst — valuation tells us where to look, and a catalyst tells us when to act. The team monitors more than 450 macro, fundamental, and sentiment indicators daily across four core strategies — Active Sector Rotation, BuyWrite, International Country Rotation, and Thematic Innovation — each available as an ETF, alongside a family of risk-based All Asset portfolios.

Being partner-owned shapes how we work: the team is small enough that the investment and research group is directly reachable, and the people who make decisions are the ones you work alongside.

The role

You join the Custom Model Portfolio Team within Main’s Research group, working directly with financial advisors and our sales team to design and deliver custom portfolios built around each advisor’s practice.

What you would do
  • Work directly with advisors — discovery conversations, portfolio proposals, and quarterly reviews, in partnership with our regional sales team
  • Construct custom, risk-based model portfolios blending Main strategies with third-party managers
  • Analyze advisor portfolios: allocation, risk, fees, overlap, and fund selection
  • Conduct manager and fund due diligence on the strategies inside our models
  • Report to the Director of Research, with regular exposure to the Investment Committee
What we are looking for
  • 1–4 years of full-time work experience in model portfolios, wealth management, TAMP/OCIO platforms, manager research, or portfolio consulting
  • A strong communicator who enjoys client work — you can present a portfolio recommendation to an advisor with clarity and confidence
  • Solid analytical foundation — portfolio analytics and comfort with tools such as Morningstar Direct
  • Strong aptitude using AI tools — ideally beyond a chat window (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or similar)
  • CFA charterholder or progress toward the charter preferred (we sponsor the program)
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and self-directed
