Job summary

Levain Bakery is seeking a Porter to support daily bakery operations by keeping the store clean, organized, and safe for customers and staff. The role emphasizes reliability, teamwork, and a proactive approach to maintaining high cleanliness standards across all areas.

Responsibilities include daily cleaning, prep support, waste management, and assisting with deliveries and merchandising. The ideal candidate is punctual, adaptable, and committed to Levain's values and guest experience.

Qualifications

• Previous custodian or porter experience in F&B or retail is preferred.
• Open availability: mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the store, including customer areas, restrooms, and workspaces.
• Sweep floors, mop, and dust as needed; report maintenance issues.
• Wash, sanitize, restock dishes, trays, baking tools, and supplies; ensure surfaces and equipment are clean.
• Assist with opening and closing duties, displays, and equipment sanitation.
• Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries and stock; support daily operations.

THE ROLE: PORTER

Porters play an essential role in ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our bakery.

Porters support the overall operations by maintaining a clean and safe environment for both customers and staff, which supports the team in daily operations. Porters understand that a clean and safe space is the foundation for any workplace.

OPERATIONS

Store Maintenance

• Maintain cleanliness in all areas of the store, including customer areas, restrooms, and workspaces, throughout the shift
• Sweep floors and sidewalk, mop, and dust areas where needed
• Communicate any maintenance issues to management

Washing & Sanitizing

• Wash, sanitize, restock dishes, trays, baking tools, and other supplies
• Follow health and safety guidelines to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff: Ensure all surfaces, floors, and equipment are clean and sanitized

Opening & Closing Duties

• Assist with the setup and breakdown of bakery displays and equipment
• Clean, sanitize, and maintain anti-fatigue floor mats
• Empty trash in bathrooms, workstations, and customer-facing areas throughout the day
• Maintain cleanliness inside waste bins

Inventory Management

• Assist in restocking and organizing inventory and adhere to guidelines given from Cookie Lead or management

Receiving & Deliveries

• Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries, ensuring proper storage of dry and refrigerated goods

Operations

• Support the team in daily operations, including light food preparation and packaging as needed

Waste Management

• Empty trash in bathrooms, work stations, and customer-facing areas throughout the day
• Maintain cleanliness inside the waste bins

Requirements

• Previous custodian or porter experience in F&B or retail is preferred
• Open availability: ability to work mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to lift/push up to 50 pounds, including overhead
• Stand/walk for an 8-hour shift (excluding a ½ hour break); some locations require walking up and down stairs

Compensation & Benefits

• $18-20.25/hour
