Job summary

West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is seeking a Porter to maintain the cleanliness and organization of a residential building and SRO units. This full-time, on-site position requires daily upkeep of public areas and resident spaces in a diverse community in New York.

Responsibilities include cleaning common areas, elevators, bathrooms, and exterior areas. The role emphasizes reliability, safety, and the ability to work with dependent persons in a housing

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent experience.
• Experience working with and around dependent persons.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of common areas, mezzanine, lobby, offices, stairwells, elevator, and laundry room.
• Clean sidewalks, front of building, and remove hazards (snow/ice).
• Clean the elevator interior and exterior doors and tracks.
• Maintain shared bathrooms on mezzanine, lobby, and resident floors; restock supplies.

Our Story

West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing, Inc. (WSFSSH) is a community‑based organization whose mission is to provide safe, affordable housing with supportive services within a residential setting which enhances the independence and dignity of each person. WSFSSH develops, manages, and provides housing for low‑income older persons, many of whom live with mental illness and/or have experienced homelessness.

Position Description

The Porter is responsible for keeping the residential building, SRO (single room occupancy) units, and public areas of the residential building neat and organized.

This is a full‑time position (5) days a week on‑site.

Responsibilities

• Regular maintenance (mopping, vacuuming, cleaning walls, handrails, surfaces, doors, collecting garbage) of the following areas including but not limited to
• Common areasin the mezzanine and lobby, offices, stairwells,elevatorand laundry roomlocatedon the basement floor
• Sidewalk and front of building is clean and free of hazards (Snow or ice)
• Regular cleaning of the elevator (including, but not limited to: walls, interior and exterior doors, door-tracks .)
• Regular maintenance of all shared bathrooms on the mezzanine, thelobbyand the resident floors (clean all surfaces, mop floors, empty garbage, assure adequate supplies of paper products and soap)
• Maintain cleaning checklists
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• High School. Diploma or GED, or a combination of education and relevant experience

Physical Requirements

• Must have the ability to walk, bend, stoop, climb and lift up to 30lbs.
