Job summary

Port of Tacoma is seeking a Relief Terminal Security Officer to safeguard the terminal area, personnel, and cargo. These non-benefited, limited-duration roles operate within a 24-hour framework and are represented by a collective bargaining agreement.

The duties include enforcing federal, state, and local security laws, patrolling terminals and waterways, controlling access, and coordinating with first responders.

Qualifications

• Minimum two years of customer service experience.
• At least one year of security officer experience in private industry, military, or applicable environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enforce port security laws and regulations; engage with first responders.
• Monitor access into terminal facilities during assigned hours.
• Patrol and surveillance of terminal and adjacent waterways; manage entry control points and perform C3I duties.
• Operate a shuttle van for transporting vessel officers, crew and visitors.
• Monitor vessel berthing and screen trucks at the gate.
• Maintain public safety and environmental/maritime safety; support uninterrupted terminal operations.
• Assist in prevention and reporting of security incidents and breaches.
• Conduct surveillance of terminals and cargo areas; inspect facilities.
• Enforce traffic control and report hazards; submit daily security/activity reports.
• Maintain communications with other security agencies.
