Job summary

The role involves performing maintenance, inspections, and troubleshooting on various cranes in diverse environments. Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and inspections on various crane types at customer locations.
  • Conduct electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Maintain communication with the local office and complete daily paperwork accurately.
  • Complete daily paperwork and log quotations for customers.
  • Provide customers with safety summaries and obtain signatures.
  • Work 24-hour call coverage and overtime as needed.

Job Summary

Do you have an interest in becoming an experienced electrical or mechanical technician? Are you able and capable of working at extreme heights? Konecranes has many opportunities open across the United States that we are looking to fill with mechanically inclined individuals. Our service technicians are the heart of our industry; they work in a safety‑first environment, handling 480 V 3‑phase motors, troubleshooting crane issues, and ensuring clients receive quality service. A company vehicle is provided.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Perform maintenance and inspections on Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG’s), Ship to Shore (STS), Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG), Automated Stacking Cranes (ASC), Straddle Carriers, Munck Loader, Goliath Gantry, Level Luffing cranes at customer locations.
  • Conduct extensive on‑site electrical, electronic and mechanical troubleshooting to determine cause for equipment malfunction and establish necessary repairs utilizing visual inspection, test procedures and appropriate test equipment.
  • Perform on‑site repairs on customer’s cranes in conjunction with planned repairs as part of a maintenance contract, in response to a service call or on an emergency call due to a breakdown.
  • Maintain a basic understanding and working knowledge of all OSHA, ANSI, CMAA and other industry codes or regulations.
  • Complete all daily paperwork accurately and completely.
  • Document and log any quotations provided to customers and generate a copy for follow‑up.
  • Review repairs with the customer and obtain signature on the daily service report indicating acceptance of work.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and image.
  • Maintain all company equipment and assets in proper working order and keep them neat or clean.
  • Maintain a stock of the appropriate forms and literature on the service vehicle and use proper documentation.
  • Keep a proper stock level of inventory and line stock items on the service vehicle.
  • Accountable for all company‑issued tools, ladders and inventory levels assigned to you.
  • Generate sales and service leads during service calls and identify appropriate Konecranes personnel for customer needs and interest levels.
  • Develop a thorough working knowledge of service literature, policies and labor rates.
  • Provide customers with a “Safety Summary” on any safety items noticed during visits and obtain a signed copy as evidence of notice.
  • Maintain regular communication with the local office, calling in at least once per day to the service supervisor.
  • Understand procurement of basic parts, complete purchase orders and develop knowledge of local vendors and stocked parts.
  • Work a fair share of any 24‑hour call and overtime necessary, divided as equally as possible by the service supervisor.
  • Complete a “Safety Audit” on limit switches and general operation of any crane inspected prior to leaving the customer’s premises.
Qualifications

Education: Prefer two‑year associate degree in Industrial Electrical/Mechanical Technology or related field, or equivalent vocational/technical training and experience.

Experience: Minimum one (1) year’s experience involving electrical and electronic troubleshooting and repair.

Other Requirements: Must have good mechanical aptitude, maintain a good driving record including a valid driver’s license, work off the ground, work overtime and out of town as necessary, and operate in demanding work environments.
