Job summary

Genesis Marine in Houston, TX seeks an experienced maintenance supervisor for inland and offshore barge fleets. You will direct repairs, manage regulatory inspections, and supervise maintenance budgets to keep vessels compliant and available.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years of tug/barge maintenance, strong knowledge of marine operations, and the ability to work independently under tight schedules. Travel flexibility and TWIC eligibility are required.

Qualifications

• Must live in or within 50 miles of Houston, Texas.
• 3 years of experience maintaining tugs or barges.
• Knowledge of oil transportation and marine industry.
• Knowledge of tugs and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
• TWIC card required or ability to obtain TWIC.
• Ability to travel to various states.
• Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
• Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise and monitor planned and unplanned repairs on tank barge fleet within budgets and time frames.
• Oversee all regulatory inspections for tank barge fleet and address issues from inspections.
• Collect bids for major shipyard work.
• Coordinate purchasing of parts and services for repair and maintenance.
• Respond to emergency calls during weekends, holidays, and nights.
• Assist with development of planned maintenance budgets.
• Maintain records for preventative maintenance program.
• Provide backup support to maintenance staff for vacations and illnesses.
• Serve as backup for vessel maintenance and repair issues.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal barge operation regulations.

Genesis Marine is safe, reliable and efficient with the right equipment for the industry's marine transportation needs. We primarily serve refineries and storage terminals along the Gulf Coast, East Coast, Canada, Great Lakes, Intracoastal Canal and western river systems of the United States, including the Red, Ouachita and Mississippi Rivers on which Genesis has significant existing terminals. Genesis Marine owns and operates two fleets, inland and offshore, including approximately 130 vessels. Our state-of-the-art barges coupled with the best liquid cargo mariners make us the safest, most efficient carrier of inland, hot-oil cargoes. Our inland fleet consists of approximately 82 barges and 33 push-boats and our offshore fleet consists of nine boats and nine barges and one ocean going tanker. We have a total design capacity of 2.3 mmbbl for Inland Marine Operations, 0.9 mmbbl for Offshore Marine Operations and 0.3 mmbbl for the M/T American Phoenix (ocean-going tanker).We provide a safe and competitive service, adhering to strict operating procedures which are designed to not only meet, but also exceed customer & regulatory requirements.

Key Duties:

• Works with Manager - Fleet Inland Maintenance to direct, supervise and monitor planned and unplanned repairs on tank barge fleet working within established budgets and time frames.
• Oversees all regulatory inspections for tank barge fleet. Address and correct any issues arising from inspections.
• Collects bids for major shipyard work.
• Coordinates the purchasing of parts and services for repair and maintenance projects.
• Responds to emergency calls during weekends, holidays, and nights.
• Assists with the development of planned maintenance budgets.
• Manages and maintains records for preventative maintenance program.
• Provides backup support to maintenance staff for vacations, illnesses, and as otherwise needed.
• Serves as backup for vessel maintenance and repair issues.
• Ensures compliance with state and federal barge operation regulations.
• Adheres to all company policies.

Required Skills, Experience, and Education:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Must live in or within 50 miles of Houston, Texas
• 3 years of experience maintaining tugs or barges.
• Computer skills: Word and Excel
• Knowledge of oil transportation and marine industry.
• Knowledge of tugs and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
• Ability to repair marine equipment on site under adverse conditions.
• Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
• Ability and willingness to travel to various states.
• Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
• Ability to get along with office staff and vessel crewmembers.
• Must be physically fit enough to board barges and tugs.
• Must have or be able to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card to obtain access to restricted facility areas.
