Job summary

Goldfish Swim School of Sugar Land is seeking a Pool Operations Manager to oversee daily pool operations, safety, cleanliness, and overall facility performance in line with Goldfish standards.

You will work with the General Manager and team to ensure proper staffing, pool chemistry, and equipment, and to uphold safety, guest experience, and operational excellence for families and staff.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in aquatics, pool operations, lifeguarding, swim instruction, or facility operations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pool safety and water chemistry preferred.
  • Ability to identify and respond to pool equipment and operational issues.

Job description

The Pool Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations, safety, cleanliness, and overall functionality of the aquatic facility. This position ensures that the pool environment consistently meets Goldfish Swim School standards while providing a safe, clean, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for our families, students, and team members.

The Pool Operations Manager works closely with the General Manager and management team to maintain strong pool operations, ensure proper staffing, oversee pool chemistry and equipment, and hold the aquatic team accountable to established safety and operational standards.

Essential Responsibilities
Pool Operations & Safety
  • Oversee daily pool operations and ensure the facility is operating safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain constant awareness of pool activity, swimmer safety, and staff positioning.
  • Ensure lifeguards, instructors, and deck supervisors are following all safety procedures.
  • Conduct regular pool and deck inspections.
  • Ensure proper student-to-instructor ratios are maintained.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, and safety concerns.
  • Ensure all required safety equipment is present, accessible, and in proper working condition.
  • Maintain accurate incident and operational records.
Pool Chemistry & Equipment
  • Monitor and maintain proper pool chemistry levels, including chlorine and pH.
  • Complete and document required chemical checks throughout the day.
  • Ensure automatic chemical systems are functioning properly.
  • Monitor pumps, filters, heaters, dehumidification systems, and other pool equipment.
  • Identify equipment issues and communicate maintenance needs to management.
  • Perform or coordinate backwashing, filter maintenance, and other routine pool maintenance.
  • Immediately escalation any chemical, mechanical, or water-quality concerns that may affect swimmer safety.
Team Leadership
  • Supervise and support lifeguards, instructors, and deck supervisors.
  • Ensure staff members understand and follow pool operating procedures.
  • Provide coaching and feedback when performance or safety standards are not being met.
  • Assist with training new aquatic team members.
  • Conduct routine observations of staff performance.
  • Promote professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
  • Assist management with scheduling and coverage needs when necessary.
Facility Standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional pool deck and aquatic area.
  • Ensure bathrooms, changing areas, pool equipment areas, and surrounding spaces meet cleanliness standards.
  • Ensure goggles, toys, equipment, and other aquatic materials are properly organized and maintained.
  • Report facility maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Ensure all operational areas are properly secured at the end of the business day.
Goldfish Standards & Guest Experience
  • Consistently represent Goldfish Swim School's values and standards.
  • Help create a positive and welcoming environment for children and families.
  • Ensure the pool environment supports Goldfish Swim School's Science of SwimPlay® philosophy.
  • Address parent and guest concerns professionally and escalates issues when appropriate.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism and customer service.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in aquatics, pool operations, lifeguarding, swim instruction, or facility operations preferred.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of pool safety and water chemistry.
  • Ability to identify and respond to pool equipment and operational issues.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during emergencies.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced aquatic environment.
  • Must be comfortable working around children and families.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and work around a pool for extended periods.
  • Current lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, and/or AED certification preferred or required based on company standards.
