Job summary

Moffitt Cancer Center in Florida is seeking a Registered Nurse to deliver individualized cancer care within our genitourinary oncology program. You will support physicians and advanced practice providers, educate patients about procedures, and participate in triage and discharge planning to ensure high-quality patient experiences.

Ideal candidates will have an ASN from an ACEN/CCNE-accredited program, Florida RN licensure, and BLS certification, with preference for oncology or acute care

Qualifications

  • ASN from ACEN or CCNE accredited program.
  • Florida RN license current or eligible for endorsement.
  • BLS certification mandatory.
  • 1 year of relevant nursing experience in oncology or acute care is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate patients on pre-op and post-op GU Surgical and Medical Oncology procedures.
  • Provide phone triage as part of shift; may handle triage for entire shift.
  • Support 2 Medical Oncologists, 4–5 Surgeons, and 5 Nurse Practitioners on clinic days.
  • Perform clinical tasks including wound care, ostomy care, bladder scanning where trained, and discharge planning.

Summary

To deliver individualized quality nursing care to cancer patients and families in accordance with established hospital guidelines, nursing professional practice model, nursing care standards and policies and in accordance with ANA code of ethics and external regulatory agencies. Registered Nurses embody the vision, mission, and philosophy of Moffitt Nursing and are committed to and accountable for personalized patient and family centered care and the concepts of Duffy's quality caring model/caring factors. These frameworks of care include: collaboration and mutual problem solving, dignity and human respect, encouraging manner, attentive reassurance, appreciation of unique meaning, healing environment, basic human needs, information sharing, caring for self, and affiliation needs. (see attached) Registered Nurses use the nursing process to effectively plan and manage quality patient care. Biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational and discharge planning needs are addressed in all steps of the nursing process. This is demonstrated in base-line and comparative documentation, entered in a timely manner, and with evidence of age-appropriate consideration when care is planned, delivered, and evaluated. Moffitt Cancer Center's Genitourinary Oncology Program is a world-class destination for patients with cancers of the urinary tract and male genital organs. We are a high-paced, high-volume, National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center with concentrated programs for even the rarest malignancies, and many of our physicians are fellowship-trained in urologic sub-specialties. As a result, we are a trusted partner of physicians across the nation in need to refer their patients to an advanced program for genitourinary cancer diagnosis or treatment.

Position Highlights

The Registered Nurse will provide support to up to 6 Physicians on some clinic days and up to 5 Nurse practitioners on other clinic days. On occasion, the Registered Nurse may be scheduled to work at our location near International Plaza. Ideal Candidate
  • Educating patients on all pre-op and post-op GU Surgical and Medical Oncology procedures
  • Phone triaging from time to time as part of his or her shift, sometimes the entire shift
  • Supporting 2 Medical Oncologists, 4-5 Surgeons, and 5 Nurse Practitioners on different clinic days
  • Performing cystoscopies, Foley catheter insertions, ostomy care, staple removal, wound care, bladder scanning and rectal swabs.
Credentials and Qualifications

ASN from an ACEN or CCNE accredited institution with 1 year of relevant experience FL RN License BLS Certification An applicant for this position, who will be or is seeking Florida licensure by endorsement, must not have any National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB) reports, unless the applicant has successfully appealed to have their name removed from the NPDB.
