Job summary

Summary
Under general supervision, the Pool Maintenance Worker performs a variety of general maintenance duties to prepare the aquatic facility for the demands of patrons and aquatic programming in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintain pool water and chemical balance at state required levels
• Maintain and order pool chemicals and other supplies to ensure adequate stock at all times
• Vacuum and skim debris off the surface of the pool
• Keep pool deck clean, free of debris, and in good repair
• Empty garbage cans and replaces liners
• Complete minor facility repairs when instructed
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pump room
• Evaluate the performance of equipment, perform preventative maintenance, complete repairs, and install new equipment in the pump room
• Perform all job duties safely and in compliance with the District General Safety Rules Manual
• Adhere to Ventura County Health Department regulations and the Model Aquatics Health Code
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 1,500 hours of relevant work or volunteer experience.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Adult and Pediatric First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of hire
• Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator Certification
• California Driver’s License

Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, and participants and/or parents/guardians.

Fingerprint-Based Background Check:

All recreation employees are required to obtain fingerprint-based background clearance at both the State (DOJ) and Federal (FBI) levels prior to their first day of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The employee may provide guidance or direction to other part-time employees and to volunteers.
