Job summary

City of St. Cloud, FL is seeking a Part-Time, Seasonal Lifeguard (Substitute) for the Chris Lyle Aquatics Center. You will monitor safety, enforce rules, and support daily pool operations in an on-call role.

The position reports to the Aquatics Superintendent and includes required 3-Day certifications and weekend/holiday availability.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Must complete a 3-Day Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Starguard Lifeguard Training by the end of the 3rd day.
• Must be dependable, safety-focused, and ready to take ownership of creating a safe guest experience.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and provides surveillance of the swimmers at all times.
• Responds to Emergency Action Plans by performing rescues, administering first-aid and CPR/O2/AED as needed.
• Enforces pool rules and regulations; explains unsafe practices to minimize injury.
• Assists in locating missing children.
• Performs daily facility tasks to maintain a neat and orderly appearance.
• Must maintain certifications for the duration of employment and participate in evaluations and training.

The Chris Lyle Aquatics Center is seeking a Part-Time, Seasonal Lifeguard (Substitute) to join our Aquatics team. Lifeguards play a vital role in creating a safe and welcoming environment for our guests by maintaining safety standards, monitoring the facility, and enforcing facility rules.

This position reports to the Aquatics Superintendent and will be scheduled on an on-call or as-needed basis to support the operational needs of the department.

• Wednesday, September 30 | 1:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Thursday, October 1 | Online course – approximately 5 hours, completed at your own pace
• Friday, October 2 | 3:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
• Saturday, October 3 | 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.

• Supervises and provides surveillance of the swimmers at all times.

• Enforces pool rules and regulations; explains to pool users unsafe practices, to minimize injury and accidents in the pool.
• Assists in locating missing children.
• Perform daily facility tasks to maintain a neat and orderly appearance
• Must maintain certifications for the duration of employment and uphold the standards and expectations. Attend and participate in monthly evaluations and training.
• Performs related work as assigned.
• Must be at least 16 years of age.

Must demonstrate the following to pass the required Swim Test:

• Swim 50 yards with no rest using the front crawl or breaststroke technique.
• Swim 50 yards with rescue tube.
• Tread for 2 mins (1 minute with hands and 1 minute without)
• Retrieve a 10lb brick from the deepest area of the pool (12ft)

Must complete a 3-Day Certification in First Aid, CPR, and Starguard Lifeguard Training and meet objectives by the end of the 3rd day. (Applicants will be hired as a Pool Lifeguard PT “Trainee” until all training objectives are met. The “Trainee” position starts at 10% below the minimum of the pay grade.)
